Hapoalim board discussing Arison-Fischer meeting

Shari Arison supported the bank's board and chairman.

The Bank Hapoalim (TASE: POLI; LSE:80OA) board of directors is now meeting to discuss the recent meetings between controlling shareholder Shari Arison and Governor of the Bank of Israel Prof. Stanley Fischer.

The bank's share jumped 8.7% today in the second largest turnover of the session, and more than double the share's average daily turnover of the past three months.

Arison and Fischer held a second meeting yesterday, which was intended to close outstanding issues from the previous meeting on Monday. At that meeting, Fischer rebuked Arison, told her to put the bank in order, and sharply criticized the conduct of Bank Hapoalim's board.

Arison continues to support Bank Hapoalim chairman Dan Dankner. A source close to Arison said yesterday that on the meeting after the meeting with Fischer, she "appreciates the work of the chairman and the conduct of the bank, and absolutely does not intervene in the management of the bank or in its activity in any way."
