Ministry to set MVNO rates if firms do not

012 Smile, HOT Cable Systems, and MIRS are among the companies interested in obtaining an MVNO license.

The Ministry of Communications will set the fees mobile virtual network operators (MVNO) will pay mobile operators in a few months if the negotiations between the companies fail.

The Ministry of Communications has published a hearing, which states that cellular companies and new operators that obtain an MVNO license have up to six months to negotiate the commercial hosting terms granted the new operator on the current operator's network. If the companies cannot agree on a price, the ministry will have to examine whether the reason for the failure is anti-competitive conduct.

If the ministry finds that the answer is yes, it will order the opening of a cellular network in favor of the new competitors, and it will set the fees paid to cellular operators.

Top Ministry of Communications officials want to set the rates soon in order to expedite the entry of new operators.

012 Smile.Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq:SMLC; TASE: SMLC), Hot Cable Systems Media Ltd. (TASE: HOT), and MIRS Communications Ltd. are among the companies interested in obtaining an MVNO license.
