Relations between the Ministry of Finance and the Prime Minister's Office are tense.
Budget Director Ram Belinkov has resigned against the backdrop of the strained relations between the Ministry of Finance and the Prime Minister's Office. Sources inform ''Globes'' that, yesterday, Belinkov vetoed the package budget deal, which delayed the agreement on the budget.
Belinkov thanked his deputy and other Budget Department officials for their dedication and professionalism and day-and-night efforts on behalf of the country's economy. He also thanked the Ministry of Finance's managers for their cooperation, saying that he believed that they would make their contribution to the public. "My responsibility to the state budget and the economy oblige me to tender my resignation," he said.
Belinkov notified Minister of Finance Yuval Steinitz of his decision to resign yesterday morning, but promised to work toward passage of the 2009-10 budget, and only afterwards will he formally hand in his letter of resignation.
