The Hadera desalination plant is on the property of the "Orot-Rabin" power station.

Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) (TASE: ELEC.B22) is preparing to enter the desalination plant and power station maintenance market. Source inform "Globes" that IEC is negotiating to undertake maintenance of the large desalination plant in Hadera, which is on land belonging to its "Orot-Rabin" power station. IEC has approached the plant's developers, Arison Holdings subsidiary Shikun u'Binui Holdings Ltd. (Housing and Construction) (TASE: HUCN) and IDE Technologies Ltd., a joint venture owned in equal shares by Israel Corp. (TASE:ILCO) and Delek Group Ltd. (TASE:DLEKG), and offers to carry out the maintenance work which is worth tens of millions of shekels a year.

The Hadera desalination plant, will produce100 million cubic meters of water annually and has already been connected to the national water system. The plant was set up at an investment of NIS 1.5 billion and should begin operations later this year or early 2010. In contrast to the plant in Ashkelon, the Hadera plant will purchase electricity directly from the IEC.
