The government's decision to expand the use of renewable energy is being put into practice in the Negev. Last week, Adionim ACT Ltd. and Kibbutz Ketura laid the cornerstone for a factory that will manufacture physical vapor deposition (PVD) coatings for solar receptors at the Shemesh ("Sun" in Hebrew) industrial park in the Eilot Regional Council north of Eilat.
Construction of the factory is due to be completed by the end of 2009 at an initial investment of $10 million. It will employ 40 people. Adionim ACT's co-chairman and CEO is Jacob Zecharia and the other co-chairman is Ed Hofland The factory is the first high-tech plant in the industrial park, and more are planned.
Ketura is also a partner in Arava Power Company, which is expected to become a leading solar energy company in Israel. Hofland is chairman of the company and Yosef Abramowitz is president.
Tens of millions of dollars will be invested in the Shemesh industrial park, which is slated to be built on a 50-dunam (12.5-acre) site. Most of the investment is supposed to come from private foreign investors. The Eilot-Eilat Regional Renewable Energy Administration.
