Cellcom Israel Ltd. (NYSE:CEL; TASE:CEL) is launching its location-based service this week, which will greatly boost mobile content usage via the company's portal. Subscribers will able to use their mobile devices as to search for daily needs, such as finding an ATM, gas station, or pharmacy, simply, quickly, and efficiently.
The new service is based on the database of Mapa Ltd. Cellcom created an easy-to-use and rapid user interface to its portal to access this database. Through Logia Ltd., Cellcom also set up a GPS-based navigation service, which will give subscribers directions after they find where they want to go.
To search, a subscriber uses his mobile device to enter Cellcom's portal, and similar to Mapa's search engine, look for what he wants.
Cellcom will initially offer its location-based service gratis, but VP marketing Adi Cohen said that it is unclear whether it will remain free, or how the company might charge for the service.
