The State of Georgia will participate in ILSI BioMed Israel 2009 taking place at the David Intercontinental and Dan Panorama hotels in Tel Aviv June 15-17. Georgia representative will look to discuss potential partnerships with Israeli bioscience companies considering locating facilities in the US.
Nearly 50 Israeli companies have established their US headquarters in Georgia, including Given Imaging Ltd. (Nasdaq: GIVN; TASE: GIVN), Mazor Surgical Technologies Ltd., Alpha Omega, and Veritas Venture Partners .
Georgia's commitment to the global bioscience industry was recently underscored as it hosted the annual BIO International Convention in May. The event attracted over 14,000 participants from around the world, including representatives from more than 25 Israeli bio-tech companies and organizations.
Georgia trade and investment representative in Israel Sherwin Pomerantz said, “The business climate in Georgia for life science companies is very strong," adding that Georgia is an ideal choice for Israeli bioscience companies seeking to enter the U.S market. Georgia representatives will be present at the David Intercontinental Hotel.
Recent growth in bioscience companies has outpaced other industries in Georgia. The bioscience industry makes up a relatively small part of the state's overall economy but clearly the growth potential remains impressive. From 2006 to 2007, the number of life sciences firms grew almost twice as fast as the number of firms in all industries. Life sciences firms rose by 6.3% compared to 3.4% for all industries. Currently the bioscience industry has approximately 18,000 employees. When the public sector is included, that number increases to 33,000.
There are daily non-stop flights between Tel Aviv and Atlanta.
The Biomed 2009 8th National Life Science & Technology week is organized by Kenes in collaboration with Globes.
