The haredi (ultra-orthodox) community now has a search engine tailored to its special needs, Reuters reports.
Yossi Altman, the manager of koogle.co.il, which was launched yesterday, told Reuters that the results that surfers receive using the search engine meet the strict standard set by the communities rabbis, and that the chances of someone being exposed to unsuitable content via Koogle were zero.
So, for example, a search for pictures on the site will return only the kind approved by the rabbis, while a search for consumer goods available via the Internet will not find goods forbidden to be used in the haredi community, such as television sets and other electronic equipment.
"This is a kosher alternative for ultra-orthodox Jews so that they may surf the Internet," Altman said. The site even prevents transactions being carried out on Saturdays, when Sabbath laws forbid business.
