Alvarion pilot offers Internet to Riviera marina boats

The 4G mobile WiMAX network will be run along with Bollare Telecom.

Alvarion Ltd. (Nasdaq: ALVR; TASE: ALVR) and Bollare Telecom SA are running a 4G mobile WiMAX pilot on the Cote d'Azur in collaboration with the Antibes municipality.

The pilot is using Tel Aviv-based Alvarion’s end-to-end 4Motion solution integrated with the Service Controller from Bridgewater Systems Inc. (TSX: BWC), and will apply applications, such as Internet access, video streaming and VoIP services to docked boats located in the marina, as well as the surrounding beach, school and municipal buildings. The pilot will also test video surveillance applications at Port Vauban using a camera from Axis.

The pilot could be extended to 350 marinas in France. The objective is to demonstrate next-generation wireless applications to tourists, visitors and local businesses.

Alvarion CEO Tzvika Friedman said, “This test network will allow people to experience a variety of wireless broadband services in real time."

Alvarion's share closed at $3.94 on Nasdaq on Friday. The share rose 2.2% by early afternoon on the TASE to NIS 15.77.
