The project aims to provide employment for Palestinians in the software sector and lower costs for Israeli companies.
$1 million has been allocated to a new project, which will promote cooperation between Israeli and Palestinian software companies. The project will map the software industry in Israel and the Palestinian Authority and their potential for cooperation.
The project is being funded by international humanitarian aid agency Mercy Corps and will be implemented by the Israel Association of Electronics & Software Industries (IAESI). IAESI reports that the project has attracted the interest of 100 Israeli companies and 50 Palestinian companies in the software sector.
IAESI estimates that within three to four years the cooperation could be worth $100 million a year in outsourcing work. The IAESI does not expect the cooperation to be affected by the Israel-Palestinian conflict and feels it could make an important contribution to the peace process.
