Shafir Civil and Marine Engineering Ltd. has won a NIS 90 million Israel Railways tender carry out earthworks for the five-kilometer stretch of the coastal line between Yavne and Bnei Darom in the south. Shafir beat six other companies, by offering the lowest bid.

The line is part of the coastal line under construction from Ashkelon and Ashdod to Tel Aviv, via Rishon LeZion and Holon.

The section includes a 100-meter bridge, and an 1.2-kilometer tunnel at Yavne. Construction is expected to take 32 months. The route is due to open in 2011, after several delays.
