Metrolight launches energy-saving lighting technology

Metrolight’s technology has already proven itself to reduce energy consumption 40-65%.

Today, Metrolight officially launched today the next generation of its SmartHID (High Intensity Discharge) technology on the Israeli market. The launch took place in Herzliya, at an event attended by leaders from government and the private sector. The new generation of technology has already been tested and field-proven at a number of sites and in municipalities in Israel and around the world.

Following the Israel launch, the company plans on increasing its sales and marketing efforts across Israel and intends to hold similar launch events in several European countries and in the US.

"Despite the fact that since 2001 we have deployed over half a million units worldwide, of which 30,000 are in Israel, we chose this moment to officially introduce our technology in Israel as the local regulatory environment and the interest of the lobbies has placed a greater focus on energy efficient lighting solutions,” said Zvi Segal, Chief Executive Officer of Metrolight.

According to the company, approximately 24% of Israel’s lighting is HID-based, slightly above the worldwide percentage of 22%. Metrolight’s technology has already proven itself to reduce energy consumption 40-65%, leading to considerable savings and a significant reduction in carbon emissions

"Should the Israeli government decide tomorrow to make more of an effort to subsidize Metrolight’s technology there would not be a need to construct the new power plant in Ashkelon as the energy savings Metrolight technology could provide would be greater than the energy output that the new plant will produce,” said Hezy Kugler, former director general of Israel’s National Infrastructures Ministry, at the launch event.
