easyJet launches London-Tel Aviv route

The low-cost airline expects to carry 100,000 passengers in the first year of operation.

Low-fares airline easyJet launched UK-Israel flights today. The airline inaugurated its London Luton - Tel Aviv route at Ben Gurion Airport with British Ambassador to Israel Tom Phillips, the company's top officials, and the 171 passengers arriving on the first flight from Luton Airport to Tel Aviv.

easyJet is operating a brand new Airbus A320 and will fly the route daily except for Fridays. It expects to carry 100,000 passengers in the first year.

easyJet UK regional general manager Paul Simmons, said, "As the only low fares airline for the London -Tel Aviv route, easyJet offers great opportunities to both British and Israeli travellers. With expected 100,000 passengers a year easyJet will provide a significant contribution to the Israeli tourism industry."

British Ambassador Tom Phillips said, "I am delighted to be at Ben Gurion Airport today to welcome easyJet's inaugural flight to Tel Aviv. easyJet's entry into the exciting Israeli market is one that will benefit both our economies and is a further welcome example of the many and varied people and business links between our two nations."

In addition to the London-Tel Aviv route, easyJet is introducing 25 new routes across its network over the coming winter. The airline currently operates 182 aircraft on 445 routes, to 112 airports in 28 countries. It carried over 44 million passengers in the past 12 months.
