The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) rose today. The Tel Aviv 25 Index rose 2.49% to 1,016.58 points, the Tel Aviv 100 Index rose 2.66% to 948.81 points, and the Tel-Tech Index rose 2.88% to 223.48 points. Turnover was NIS 1.33 billion.
The mood on the TASE was upbeat from the opening, and the day ended with strong gains, which boosted the Tel Aviv 25 Index back over the 1,000-point level.
Long-term Shahar unlinked government bonds fell by up to 0.2% and long-term Galil CPI-linked bonds were unchanged. The corporate bond benchmark Tel-Bond 20 Index rose 0.64%.
In the foreign currency market, the shekel-dollar exchange rate fell 0.34% to NIS 3.793/$, but the shekel-euro exchange rate rose 0.29% to NIS 5.595/€.
In the stock market, Israel Corporation (TASE: ILCO) and Paz Oil Company Ltd. (TASE:PZOL) led the Tel Aviv 25 Index upward, with gains of 6.7% and 4.3%, respectively. Israel Corp. yesterday announced that, after it improved its proposal, the shareholders meeting approved the debt settlement for Zim Integrated Shipping Services Ltd.
Bezeq The Israeli Telecommunication Co. Ltd. (TASE: BEZQ) continued to be a focus of attention ahead of the publication of its third quarter financials tomorrow. The share rose 1.8% in heavy trading.
The Banking Index rose 3.7%, with Bank Hapoalim (TASE: POLI) rising 3.3% and Bank Leumi (TASE: LUMI) rising 3.8%. Israel Discount Bank (TASE: DSCT) continued to be a focus of attention over wish of its controlling shareholder, the Bronfman-Schron group, to oust chairman Shlomo Zohar. The share rose 4%. Mizrahi Tefahot Bank (TASE:MZTF) rose 3.9%.
The Real Estate 15 Index rose 4.1%. Africa-Israel Investments Ltd. (TASE:AFIL; Pink Sheets:AFIVY) rose 1.1%, as the Series 9 bondholders, who are due to be paid next week, held a press conference today at which they presented their objections to the debt settlement reached between the company and most of its bondholders earlier this week.
Among the technology companies that published their financials today, WiMAX solutions developer Alvarion Ltd. (Nasdaq: ALVR; TASE: ALVR) rose 2.1%, after swinging back to profit, despite declines in its core business. AudioCodes Ltd. (Nasdaq: AUDC; TASE: AUDC) rose 5.7% on good financials, but Orckit Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: ORCT; TASE: ORCT) fell 2.4% on poor financials.
