Trade minister leads delegation to Turkey

The visit takes place against a backdrop of strained relations between Turkey and Israel.

Against a backdrop of strained relations between the two countries, a 20-strong Israeli delegation headed by Minister of Industry, Trade, and Labor Binyamin Ben-Eliezer is setting out this evening for Turkey, for a three-day visit. The delegation will might high-ranking officials in Istanbul and Ankara, and discuss diplomatic and economic issues. Sources close to Ben-Eliezer described the visit as “an important milestone in improving relations with Turkey.” However, the delegation will not meet Turkish prime minister Tayyip Erdogan, as he will be out of the country during the period of the visit.

The business people in the delegation, headed by Manufacturers Association president Shraga Brosh, will take part in a joint Israeli-Turkish business conference and in a business seminar in Istanbul, at which they will meet their Turkish counterparts.
