After the basketball referees comes the turn of the football referees. Israel Tax Authority investigators today raided the offices of the Israel Football Association and confiscated documents. The Tax Authority's target is football referees, including referees who work overseas, who are reportedly suspected of tax evasion.

Tax Authority investigators from the Tel Aviv assessors office recently arrested referees Sammy Bachar and Yaron Zarif on suspicion of concealing earnings from refereeing games abroad.

This is the first act in spread of the Fanan affair into the world of football. The late Moni Fanan, a former manager of the Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball team, was alleged to have served as an "investment bank" for players on the team, investing on their behalf."

Responding to rumors that basketball player Tal Bornstein had given money to Fanan, his father, Zvika Bornstein, told “IDF Radio" (Galei Zahal) today, "All the reports about Tal are fiction. It would be great if Tal had all the money alleged in the reports, maybe he would have given it to me."
