Fremont, California-based DCG Systems Inc. is the latest company wafer inspection systems developer that plans to set up a development center in Israel. Last month, the company set up an independent marketing and support organization in Israel.
DCG Systems president and CEO Dr. Israel Niv said, "DCG considers Israel to be a strategically important market with respect to semiconductor design and innovative new technologies. This change will permit us to work closely with our customers on more effectively satisfying their advanced technology needs. We plan to tap into the high quality and experienced R&D workforce in Israel to develop new products aimed at addressing semiconductor yield challenges of 32-nanometer and beyond."
DCG Systems has contracted with MICL Consulting & Logistics Ltd. to provide the logistical support for DCG's operations in Israel. MICL specializes in supporting non-Israeli companies doing business in Israel's semiconductor industry.
DCG Systems has been in business for over 20 years. It was spun from oilfield and information services provider Schlumberger Ltd. (NYSE: SLB). CEO Niv has worked at several semiprocessor debugging and inspection companies, including at Opal Inc. and then at its buyer, Applied Materials Inc. (Nasdaq: AMAT). In 1998, he founded Optonics, which was acquired by Credence Systems Corporation (Nasdaq: LTXC). The unit was later sold to DCG.
