Ceva supports LTE technology in Samsung 4G phone

The Israeli DSP technology company has also announced agreements with Beceem and Sequans.

Among the welter of announcements at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, there have been several from Israeli company Ceva (Nasdaq: CEVA), which provides digital signal processing technology. Products based on Ceva's intellectual property have been incorporated into communications chipsets for the fourth generation of cellular telephones.

The most important announcement concerns cellular modem solutions presented by Samsung based on LTE (long term evolution) technology. The Kalmia modem chipset supports download speeds of up to 100Mbps and upload speeds of up to 50Mbps. The agreement with Samsung, for which Ceva also provides third generation telephone technology, will earn Ceva a $2 million one-time payment and a $0.10 average royalty on every device sold.

Apart from the agreement with Samsung, Ceva also announced agreements with the two largest WiMAX chipset providers, Sequans and Beceem. These two start-up companies also announced at the Congress solutions for the developing LTE market. In the case of Beceem, Ceva announced that Beceem would incorporate its Ceva-XC advanced processor in the BCS500, which can support all combinations of LTE and WiMAX. Under this agreement, Ceva will receive a royalty of up to $0.15 on every device sold.
