CCTV to cover Israeli towns

The Ministry of Public Security has published a tender for a closed circuit TV network.

After closed circuit television cameras in Dubai caught the assassins of Hamas leader Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, closed circuit television will be coming to Israel. The Ministry of Public Security has published a project consultancy and advice tender for the establishment of a network of closed circuit television technology, sensor cameras and municipal command and control centers as part of a "City without Violence" program.

The cameras and sensors will be installed at public places, including commercial and industrial centers, residential areas, entertainment centers, educational centers, public institutions, main road junctions, public parks and gardens, and anywhere else frequented by vandals, or focus on criminal activity and violence.

The Ministry of Public Security says that the system will not infringe on individuals' privacy or provisions of the law. Photographs and identification will be at a level that will enable the collection of evidence and real-time intervention in order to frustrate and prevent acts of violence, delinquency, and breaches of public order.
