Israel's largest cinema multiplex opens Thursday in Rishon

Innovations include a glass floor with a screen under the moviegoers' feet.

Competition in Israel's cinema scene will hot up on Thursday when Cinema City opens its doors at the G Leisure Center in Rishon Lezion. The 26 screen multiplex will be the largest in the country, just beating the 25 screen Cinema City at Glilot in Ramat Hasharon near Tel Aviv. The 26 screen multiplex has seating for 4,000 moviegoers and covers 45,000 square meters.

The multiplex owners Gazit-Globe (TASE:GLOB) and Cinema City's New Leo Cinema Ltd. have spared no expense in luring the public away from other cinemas and home entertainment options. The 26 cinemas have been based on various creative concepts including full high-definition with blue-ray movies, to ensure that moviegoers receive better quality movies at the cinema than at home. All projectors are digital.

The Rishon Cinema City's unique features will include a theater with a glass floor and a screen beneath the moviegoers' feet, which is an extension of the main screen and gives viewers the effect of being immersed in the movie. New Leo Cinema claims to hold a worldwide patent for the glass cinema, which will open in two weeks time.

The lawn in front of the multiplex has life-size models of a mammoth, Tyrannusaures Rex, sauropods and other dinosaurs.
