Sources inform ''Globes'' that the management of First International Bank of Israel (TASE: FTIN1;FTIN5) has asked its pensioners to come back to work for a brief period at preferential terms, in order to bypass the labor sanctions launched by employees. Management is reportedly offering the pensioners NIS 1,000 a day over a one-month period. The pensioners will asked to man the desks at subsidiary Bank Otsar Hahayal, and to help the unit install First International Bank's computer system at its branches.
The management is responding to an order by First International Bank's workers committee, led by Hanoch Livne, to employees not to cooperate in installing the computer system at Bank Otsar Hahayal. The order was issued in the wake of disagreements with management, and the pending expiry of the period of industrial quiet agreed upon between the bank's management and workers committee 18 months ago.
First International Bank's workers committee is worried that installation of the computer system at the subsidiary's branches will help management break possible strikes at First International Bank by using employees of Bank Otsar Hahayal.
First International Bank's management said in response, "The bank's management periodically approaches the bank's pensioners with various offers."
