The former IEC chairman submitted his candidacy on his own, after a committee turned down his request.
Adv. Shlomo Nass CPA today submitted his candidacy for a director of Bank Leumi (TASE: LUMI), under Article 87 of the bank's bylaws, which allows independent candidates. The bank will convene its general shareholders meeting to elect new directors on June 2.
Nass has served as chairman of Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) (TASE: ELEC.B22) and Ayalon Holding Ltd. (TASE: AYAL). He serves on the boards of several public companies, and is a lecturer in economics. He was the liquidator of the Clubmarket supermarket chain and of the hamburger chain, Burger Ranch. His wife is Deputy Minister of Pensioner Affairs MK Lea Nass (Likud).
Nass submitted his candidacy to the appointment committee chaired by Judge Wallenstein, but it was rejected when a committee member objected. Sources close to the committee said that the objection was based on the connection related to his wife, rather than because of his qualifications, of which there are no doubts.
