Alvarion to fire 30

The layoffs are expected next week, when the company is due to release first quarter results.

Alvarion Ltd. (Nasdaq: ALVR; TASE: ALVR) is again laying off workers. Sources inform "Globes" that the company will fire 30 of its employees next week, when it is also due to release its first quarter financials. The layoffs are apparently part of an ongoing streamlining program.

Alvarion laid off 25 workers last October, just before a change of CEO.

Alvarion is currently managed by Eran Gorev, who replaced Tzvika Friedman after the latter was four years in the post. The company provides wireless broadband solutions, focusing on WiMAX technology. It is listed in Tel Aviv and New York, with a market cap of $238.65 million.

In 2009, Alvarion laid off 160 workers in two rounds, the first of which also included cuts in management salaries. The second round followed the collapse of Canadian telecommunications equipment company Nortel, with which Alvarion had a strategic agreement. Most of Alvarion's workers are based in Tel Aviv.
