3 El Al, Israir flights cancelled by volcano

El Al today cancelled flights from Ben Gurion Airport to Rome and Milan.

Flight disruptions by the latest eruption of Iceland's Eyjafjallajokull volcano have spread as far as Israel. The ash cloud from the present eruption has closed airports in Ireland, France, Spain, Portugal, and Italy, resulting in the cancellation of flights to those destinations.

El Al Israel Airlines Ltd. (TASE: ELAL) today cancelled two flights from Ben Gurion Airport - one to Rome and one to Milan, and Israir Airlines and Tourism Ltd. canceled a flight to Milan. These are among the hundreds of flights cancelled or delayed by various airlines around Europe.

Last month, the ash cloud caused an estimated $200 million in loses a day to the global aviation industry, and airlines' shares plunged with the grounded flights.
