Health funds' revenue rises 6.4%

Funds earned money from health basket services and supplementary insurance services.

Israel's four health funds posted 6.4% growth in aggregate revenue in 2009, while also seeing pay hikes for doctors and higher hospitalization fees at government hospitals. Aggregate revenue rose to NIS 37 billion in 2009, from NIS 34 billion in 2008, according to Dun & Bradstreet Israel.

The revenue growth came from both services included in the healthcare basket and from additional services provided through supplementary insurance or private insurance by subsidiaries. Clalit Health Services' revenue rose in 2009 to NIS 21.3 billion from NIS 20.2 billion in 2008. This figure includes NIS 15.2 billion from services included in the healthcare basket, up from NIS 14.5 billion in 2008, and NIS 6.1 billion in other income, up from NIS 5.7 billion in 2008.

Maccabi Healthcare Services' revenue rose to NIS 8.26 billion in 2009 from NIS 7.56 billion in 2008, Meuhedet Health Services' revenue rose to NIS 4.2 billion from NIS 3.88 billion, Leumit Health Fund's revenue rose to NIS 3 billion from NIS 2.8 billion.
