Italian ISP NGI expands with Alvarion deal

NGI will expand service in seven northern Italian provinces.

Alvarion Ltd. (Nasdaq: ALVR; TASE: ALVR) will provide its WiMAX solution to BT Italia Group SpA subsidiary NGI SpA to expand the operator's network. Alvarion did not disclose the size of the deal.

Alvarion will provide its BreezeMAX Extreme 5000 product, a WiMAX solution for license-exempt frequency, for high-speed broadband service. NGI will use the solution to expand service in the northern Italian provinces of Lombardy, Veneto, Emilia Romagna, Liguria, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Valle d’Aosta, and Piemonte, a 100,000-square kilometer region with many locations that are not covered by DSL services.

Alvarion's share price rose 6.5% on Nasdaq yesterday to $2.80, giving a market cap of $174 million, but the share price fell 3.1% by early afternoon on the TASE today to NIS 10.45.
