Workers in R&D were the first quarter's highest earners.
The average monthly gross salary was NIS 8,422 in the first quarter of 2010, up 2.5% from the corresponding quarter of 2009, the Central Bureau of Statistics reported today.
The highest paid employees remain those of Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) (TASE: ELEC.B22) and Mekorot Water Company Ltd. with average gross salaries of NIS 20,334. However, a breakdown by subsector shows that the top earners were R&D workers with a gross salary of NIS 23,039. Computer employees, not in R&D earned a gross average salary of NIS 17,862, while finance sector workers earned NIS 15,321.
The latest Central Bureau of Statistics data show other positive indicators for the job market. In the first quarter of 2010 the number of salaried employees in Israel rose 0.8% to 2.97 million, of whom 2.86 million are Israelis.
