Ceragon wins follow-on Philippine deal

Digitel Mobile's Manila-Cebu project will provide 3G coverage in the southern Philippines.

Wireless backhaul developer Ceragon Networks Ltd. (Nasdaq: CRNT; TASE:CRNT) has won a follow-on $9 million deal with Digitel Mobile Philippines Inc. to supply its FibeAir solutions for the expansion and upgrade of Digitel's 2G/3G metro network.

Ceragon added that the order is just one of numerous follow-on orders for the company.

Digitel is migrating to an all-IP Ethernet backhaul network that to provide better service for voice, data, and multimedia communications. The mobile carrier's Manila-Cebu Alternative Backbone project will provide 3G coverage in the southern Philippines, and its North Luzon Backbone Expansion project will provide additional 2G service in the north. Digitel operates under the Sun Cellular label.

Ceragon president and CEO Ira Palti said, “Reliably delivering a demanding range of 3G services and IP-based multimedia applications is a great challenge for operators today."

Ceragon's share closed at $7.25 on Nasdaq on Friday, giving a market cap of $248 million. The share price rose 1.3% in early trading on the TASE today to NIS 29.
