Camille Pissarro's "Meadow with the Grey Horse, Eragny", painted in 1893, is one of the works of art that Jerusalem's MatsArt Auctioneers and Appraisers will auction at the King David Hotel on June 30. The painting has been valued at $1-2 million, and it will be one of the most expensive paintings ever sold in Israel.
MatsArt will auction 250 paintings with an aggregate value of about $8 million. They include works by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Marc Chagall, and Moise Kisling, as well as Israeli artists Yohanan Simon and Meir Pichhadze. Work by contemporary artists, such as Arik Bukovza will also be offered.
A preview of the paintings opens today at the Tel Aviv Hilton, and will continue through Sunday. The MatsArt gallery in Jerusalem will hold a preview from June 23 through the day of auction.
The auction house said that 96 paintings came from abroad, among them some big and interesting names. In addition to Pissarro's painting, 20 works by his sons, grandsons, and great-grandsons will also be offered.
