Israelis 2nd most active in Internet usage

comScore SVP Mike Read: Israel has contributed disproportionately to the global digital landscape.

Israelis are the second most active Internet users in the world, after Canada, according to comScore survey of Internet use. Average time spent online per user was 38.3 hours in May 2010, compared with 40.4 hours in Canada. The US is ranked third, followed by the UK.

Average time online by Israelis is 60% greater than the worldwide average of 24 hours per user.

“Israel is one of the most active and dynamic Internet markets in the world,” said comScore SVP Mike Read. “Israelis are particularly sophisticated, tech-savvy consumers who spend considerably more time online than average, while Israel is also known for its spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship, especially in technology and digital media industries. Though relatively small in size, Israel has contributed disproportionately to the development of the current global digital landscape."

comScore also ranked leading websites in Israel. Google is in first place, with 3.8 million visitors age 15 and older accessing the site from home and work, representing 92% of the total Internet audience. Facebook.com is in second place, with 3.5 million visitors (85%), after a 92% increase in visitors over the past year.
