Trustwave buys Israel's Breach Security

Breach Security's WebDefend is a customized product for enterprises and small and mid-sized businesses.

Chicago-based information security and compliance solutions developer Trustwave Inc. has acquired US-Israeli web application firewall developer Breach Security Inc. in a share-swap deal. The company for Breach Security was not disclosed.

Trustwave has raised $10 million since it was founded in 2004, while Breach Security raised $55 million from Pitango Venture Capital, Evergreen Venture Partners, Intel Capital, JPMorgan, and now defunct Ascend Technologies. Most of the company's Israeli investors wrote off the investment long ago. Breach Security is now owned by Sid. R. Bass Associates, which bought the stakes of Evergreen and EPVC.

Breach Security's WebDefend is a customized product for enterprises and small and mid-sized businesses, inspects incoming and outgoing of web traffic for sensitive data, such as credit card and Social Security numbers.
