The National Infrastructures Committee has approved sending the plan for the Israel Railways eastern line between Pardess Hanna to Lod to the Central Regional Planning and Building Commission for comment.
The National Infrastructures Committee said, "The eastern line is a critical link in Israel's rail network. Together with the new lines moving forward in the Negev and the Galilee, it meets the criteria of priority, which seeks to encourage more and more passengers and cargo using the rails."
The eastern line will run 65 kilometers between the link-up with the coastal line at Pardess Hanna to Lod, where it will link-up with the Tel Aviv lines to Jerusalem and Beersheva. The eastern line will have ten stations at Hadera East, Ahitov, Emek Hefer, Taibeh-Kalansua, Tira-Kochav Yair, Rosh Ha'Ayin North, Rosh Ha'Ayin South, Kfar Saba North, Elad, Ben Gurion Airport, and Lod. The line will link-up with the Hayarkon line between Tel Aviv and Rosh Ha'Ayin.
The current track between Hadera and Rosh Ha'Ayin will be doubled as part of the project. A double track will allow trains to move at up to 160 km/h. The project will have 30 railway overpasses or underpasses.
