Arkia inaugurating Aqaba flights despite rocket attack

Despite yesterday's rocket attack against Eilat and Aqaba, which killed one person in Aqaba, no reservations in Eilat have been cancelled.

Arkia Airlines Ltd. will inaugurate a twice-weekly flight between Ben Gurion Airport and Aqaba in Jordan on August 20. Despite yesterday's rocket attack against Eilat and Aqaba, which killed one person in Aqaba, no reservations in Eilat have been cancelled.

Arkia VP Dudu Mahlev said that in the day after the rocket attack, hotels in the area are reporting a return to routine, with holidaymakers continuing their vacations. "There are scores of families in Aqaba right now. A survey we made among some of them yesterday after the initial panic found the quiet has been restored, the atmosphere is calm, and there's nothing to fear," he said.

Mahlev added, "Our situational assessment concluded that that we should go ahead with our plan to operate a biweekly flight to Aqaba beginning on August 20."
