Former Skype CEO invests in SupersonicAds

SupersonicAds has developed a platform that enables gaming sites and applications developers to earn money by selling virtual goods.

Internet company SupersonicAds Ltd. has raised $2 million from former Skype CEO Michael van Swaaij and other private investors.

SupersonicAds was founded in 2008 by Nissim Romano, CEO Gil Shoham, and Arik Czerniak, a co-founder of Metacafe. SupersonicAds has developed a platform that enables gaming sites and applications developers to earn money by selling virtual goods.

As for advertisements, users are exposed to offers, for which they can sign up (such as a Netflix subscription) and get rewarded with virtual currency. The virtual currency can be used to buy goods in a game.

SupersonicAds already offers its virtual currency to more than 150 social applications found on social networks, such as Facebook and MySpace. The company has more than 450 advertisers, including Playdom and Live Gamer.

SupersonicAds has offices in London, Israel, and the US, and has 32 employees. Its core business is in Europe, and its product is available in 20 languages.
