Israel Shipyards: Haifa Municipality sewage charge "outrageous"

Israel Shipyards owns Israel's only private port.

Israel Shipyards Ltd., which owns Israel's only private port, alleges that the Haifa Municipality has charged it NIS 17 million sewage fee, which the company calls "outrageous". In the statement of claim filed with the Haifa Magistrates Court, the company said that the demand was made without any consultation, and in a way that is liable to cause the company financial difficulties.

Israel Shipyards owns a 335-dunam (88.75-acre) site at the mouth of the Kishon River close to Haifa Port Company Ltd.. The port includes a 900-meter pier.

The company says that the demand for the sewage was a "bolt out of the blue" and came after it settled its arnona (local property tax) bill with the municipality.
