The Turkish embassy building on Hayarkon Street in Tel Aviv will become a hotel, the Tel Aviv Local Planning and Building Commission decided today. The plan was reported by "Globes" earlier this week. Developer Dorit Meir submitted the plan to convert the four-storey building into a six-storey three-star hotel with 58 rooms.
The Tel Aviv Local Planning and Building Commission also approved three other plans for hotels on Hayarkon Street, as part of the Tel Aviv-Jaffa Municipality's plan to expand the number of three-star hotel rooms in the city.
The real estate industry has known of Turkey's plan to move its embassy to a new location, although the move has not yet been made. The embassy is following other embassies which are leaving Hayarkon Street to sites in Tel Aviv's office towers, to the Diamond Exchange in Ramat Gan, or to Herzliya Pituah.
Last week, a Palestinian man, Nadim Injaz broke into the Turkish Embassy. He claimed to be a former informer for the Israel Security Agency and the Israel Police.
