Strike at Ben Gurion Airport from Thursday

From 6 am on the first day of Rosh Hashana, no flights will be allowed to land or take off.

Ben Gurion Airport workers will strike from 6am Thursday, the first day of Rosh Hashana, to protest that their pension arrangements agreement has not yet been signed.

The workers committee has already threatened disruptions in the past and declared labor disputes. But today with the support of the Histadrut, (General Federation of Labor), the workers committee announced that it is using its ultimate weapon at a time when the number of Israelis leaving the country is at a peak.

The workers committee, headed by Pinchas Idan, will not allow any flights to land or take off. The Israel Airports Authority has yet to respond to the announcement of the strike.

Ben Gurion Airport's employees have been negotiating with management over their pension arrangements for more than two years. Negotiations on the issue broke up today followed by the workers committee declaring the strike.

The workers committee told "Globes," "We hope that the Israel Airports Authority will sober up and solve the issue in the next 48 hours but following this morning's meeting we are not optimistic."
