Speed limit rises to 110 kmh on selected highways

Transport Minister Israel Katz is signing new instructions raising the speed limit on Roads, 1, 4, 431 and others.

Minister of Transport Israel Katz had adopted the recommendations of a professional committee of traffic engineers which has studied speed limits over the past two years.

Katz was due to sign new instructions this afternoon raising the speed limit from 100 to 110 kilometers per hour on Road 1 (Tel Aviv-Jerusalem), Road 4 (Rishon Lezion-Ashdod), and Road 431 (Modiin-Rishon Lezion). Drivers will actually be allowed to travel at 120 kilometers per hour because a 10% error is allowed for before prosecutions are made.

At the same time the speed limit will rise from 90 to 100 kilometers per hour on Road 20 (Ayalon Freeway), Road 2 (Coastal Highway), Road 5 (Trans-Samaria Highway) and Road 40 (Beersheva bypass).

The speed limit will be lowered on other roads such as Derekh Namir in Tel Aviv where the speed limit will fall from 80 to 70 kilometers per hour.
