Hotel overnight stays by tourists up 23%

Hotel occupancy was 65% from January to September 2010 compared with 58% for the corresponding period of last year.

The Central Bureau of Statistics reported today that there were 16.2 million overnight stays in Israeli hotels between January 2010 and September 2010, up 10% over the corresponding period of 2009 due to a 23% rise in tourism. 2009 was adversely affected by Operation Cast Lead. However, the figure for the first 9 months of 2010 was still 1% less than 2008.

Hotel occupancy was 65% from January to September 2010 compared with 58% for the corresponding period of last year and 67% for the corresponding period of 2008.

Over this period hotel occupancy in Jerusalem was 63.5% up 24.8% from 50.9% last year. Occupancy in the north was 58.7% compared with 51.3% last year. Occupancy in Haifa was 61.4% compared with 55.9% last year. Occupancy in Tel Aviv was 61.3% compared with 55.3% last year. Occupancy in the south was 67% compared with 65% last year.
