$400m in deals hoped from Homeland Security Conference

Officials from homeland security agencies from around the world met with representatives of dozens of Israeli companies.

Organizers of the First Israel Homeland Security International Conference in Tel Aviv believe that contracts formulated during the conference will exceed $400 million. At least 800 business meetings were held during the last two days of conference, which was organized by the Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute.

Officials from homeland security agencies from around the world met with representatives of dozens of Israeli companies that are developing technological solutions in the field.

Export Institute director general Avi Hefetz told "Globes" that 1,500 people attended the conference, including 300 foreign visitors. He added that, in view of the great interest in the conference, the Export Institute is planning an even larger conference annual conference, rather than a biennial conference, as initially planned.

At the conference, Elbit Systems Ltd. (Nasdaq: ESLT; TASE: ESLT) displayed its Skylark tactical unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and G-NIUS Ltd. displayed its unmanned perimeter defense vehicle for sensitive installations. Pour-Troop, founded by a group of young former IDF commandoes, is a job placement agency for elite combat veterans. The company says that it has more than 2,000 men in its database who are available for missions almost anywhere in the world.

Many of the items shown were originally developed for military purposes during the wave of terrorism and cross-border attacks that plagued Israel. In an effort to export their wares, several Israeli companies reconfigured their products for broader uses, such as improving perimeter defenses of airports and strategic installations.
