Dr. Orna Berry is returning to a top position in high tech, after a 14-year absence. Data storage solutions giant EMC Corporation (NYSE: EMC) today announced Berry's appointment as VP and manager of the company's center of excellence in Israel. EMC said that a single management team will run the center of excellence.
Berry's appointment is part of EMC's restructuring of its development activity in Israel. The company will consolidate its two development centers, which currently operate in two locations and under separate management.
EMC's large development center in Herzliya Pituah is based on RSA Security Inc., which EMC acquired in mid-2006. This center is also partly based on Cyota, which was acquired by RSA before its acquisition by EMC. The second development center is in Ramat Gan, and is based on Israeli companies acquired by EMC over the years. EMC's Israeli development activities currently employ 500 people.
Since 2000, Berry has been an independent partner at Gemini Israel Funds. She headed the Israel Venture Capital Association in 2007-09, and was Chief Scientist in 1996-2000.
At EMC, Berry will be responsible for strategy and implementation of all activities of the Israeli development center.
Berry said, "I am committed to finding more opportunities for EMC to expand its presence in the market through new partners, ties with academe, and other initiatives relevant to EMC's strategy."
Berry will report to EMC SVP and CIO Sanjay Mirchandani. He said, "The R&D activity at the center of excellence in Israel is critical for maintaining EMC's leadership in the industry."
