DSP cores developer Ceva Inc. (Nasdaq:CEVA); LSE:CVA) has been ranked as the worldwide leader in DSP licensing revenue and in licensable DSP unit shipments in 2009, with 78% and 80% market share, respectively.
The Linley Group analyst Joseph Byrne said, "Ceva is by far the most successful supplier of DSP IP, supplying DSPs to leading developers of chips for consumer electronics and communications. The company's strong customer base continues to gain significant market share at leading OEMs like Nokia and Samsung, further strengthening their leadership position in the licensable DSP arena. Furthermore, the serviceable market for merchant DSP IP in connected devices, portable and consumer electronics is rapidly expanding and CEVA is well positioned to capitalize on this.
Ceva CEO Gideon Wertheizer said, "Ceva is pleased to be ranked by The Linley Group as the worldwide leader in DSP licensing revenue and licensable DSP unit shipments."
Ceva DSP cores are used in a wide range of applications, including cellular baseband, HD video, audio and VoIP. The company's latest products target 4G mobile devices and infrastructures. The company supplies DSP cores to seven of the world's top eight handset OEMs for mobile handsets, resulting in the company's technology being used in one-third of handsets worldwide.
The Linley Group expects the company's market share to grow as the handset industry shifts more designs to Ceva-powered wireless semiconductor customers, including Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM), Infineon AG (NYSE; DAX: IFN), Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (KSX: 5530), Spreadtrum Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: SPRD), ST-Ericsson, and VIA Telecom Inc.
Ceva's share price rose 2.1% on Nasdaq yesterday to $23.39, giving a market cap of $514 million. The share was unchanged in morning trading in London at ₤11.50.
