Amdocs hires thousands more in India

36.5% of Amdocs' workforce was in India at the end of September.

The Form 20-F annual report for the fiscal year that ended in September 2010 that Amdocs Ltd. (NYSE: DOX) filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) earlier this week offers some answers about what the company looked like under former CEO Dov Baharav's final year. The customer resource management and billing company is now run by CEO Eli Gelman.

36.5% of Amdocs' workforce, not including management, is in India. The company's workforce totaled 19,455 employees at the end of September 2010, 12.8% more than a year earlier. The company's Indian workforce shot up by 49% - 2,170 persons -over the same period.

Amdocs' Israeli workforce grew by 690 employees during the 2010 fiscal year, to 4,306 persons by the end of September. The Israeli workforce is back at its level of 2008, before layoffs in 2009. Israelis account for 23.9% of Amdocs' global workforce.

Amodocs' largest customer, AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T), accounted for 29% of the company's revenue in fiscal year 2010, down from 33% in fiscal year 2009.

Amdocs' large shareholders include three US institutional investors. Thornburg Investment Management Inc. is the largest shareholder in Amdocs, with a 10.8% stake, worth over $561 million. Manning & Napier Advisors Inc. became a party at interest in the company this year, with a stake of 6.3%, and Ameriprise Financial Inc. owns 6%. 19 Amdocs officers and directors own 4.7 million Amdocs shares between them, amounting to 2.45% of the company.

Amdocs' share price rose 0.7% yesterday to $27.30, giving a market cap of $5.61 billion.
