Danino has previously headed sensitive investigations against politicians.
Minister of Public Security Yitzhak Aharonovitch today appointed Yohanan Danino as the next Chief of Israel Police. Commissioner Danino is currently Commander of the Southern District.
Aharonovitch said, "I am sure that Danino will move the police forward and work to increase enforcement, the war against violence and the security of citizens."
The appointment came after the Supreme Court rejected a request to issue an interim injunction delaying the announcement of the next chief of police.
Danino has previously headed sensitive investigations against politicians including former President Moshe Katsav, former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and former minister of Finance Avraham Hirschson.
