Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) official representative in Israel, iDigital Ltd. will launch sales of the iPad tablet computer on Tuesday, long after Apple launched it globally in April.
Only iDigital will initially sell the iPad in Israel, and the mobile carriers will not, which means that Israelis will only be able to buy the WiFi version of the iPad.
In late November, Apple launched the updated version of the iPad's iOS operating system, which includes a Hebrew-language interface and keyboard. Earlier and personally imported versions had no Hebrew. Israel's mobile carriers and iDigital were the most avid parties waiting for the new operating system, in order to sell the iPad in Israel.
The iPad has been available for several months as a "personal import" at several electronics chains in Israel, at prices of NIS 3,000-4,000 per unit. The iDigital price is expected to be NIS 2,500 for a 16-Gb version.
