Sheshinski "optimistic" about recommendations in Knesset

Prof. Eytan Sheshinksi: The prime minister made an important leadership decision.

Following Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's announcement yesterday that he will adopt the Sheshinski committee's final report in full, committee chairman Prof. Eytan Sheshinksi thanked him and the Ministry of Finance, telling “IDF Radio" (Galei Zahal), "I and all the people involved in the committee withstood pressures and threats throughout the process, from the start of the work, through the interim report, and up to the submission of the final recommendations. The prime minister made an important leadership decision."

Asked whether lobbyists could change the decision when it reaches the Knesset, Sheshinski said, "I'm optimistic that the Knesset will pass the recommendations. There's a difficult question about a legitimate system of pressure, but everything is a matter of proportion. I ask myself to what extent lobbyists should be allowed to reach MKs and their discussions in committee. Some kind of limit should be put in place."
