Femtocell technology aims to solve reception problems inside homes and small businesses.
Partner Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: PTNR; TASE: PTNR) will apparently be the first Israeli mobile carrier to adopt Femtocell technology. The carrier has completed trials of the technology and placed its first order for a launch in a few months.
Femtocell technology aims to solve reception problems inside homes and small businesses. Femtocells are miniature antennas that attach to ADSL line or cable modem and connect to cellular networks.
Femtocell solutions are very popular at the 2011 World Mobile Congress in Barcelona, and most large telecommunications equipment manufacturers offer them. Partner is in the final stages of adopting Femtocell products made by Alcatel Lucent SA (NYSE; Euronext: ALU).
Pelephone Communications Ltd. is testing Femtocell products made by Nokia Siemens Networks, although it is not clear at this stage whether Pelephone has decided to adopt the technology.
