"Israeli high tech is well positioned to play a leading role in the revolution in the world of computing in the coming years," is how IDC new technologies researcher Dan Yachin and analyst Oren Raviv sum up the company's first comprehensive report on Israeli high tech, the "HTIA Annual Review: Israeli High Tech Industry 2010".
The High Tech Industry Association (HTIA), chaired by Aaron Mankovski, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs participated in the report, which the ministry will distribute around the world. The ministry aims to market Israeli high tech worldwide and encourage foreign investment and ties with Israeli companies.
The report is due to be published annually. It covers hundreds of start-ups in a range of technology fields, as well as in-depth coverage of business developments, especially mergers and acquisitions of Israeli companies.
The survey includes a history of Israeli high tech, beginning with the large companies founded in the 1980s and 1990s, the defense companies, and the establishment of R&D centers by multinationals, through start-ups that are relevant today in that field. The survey also deals with the life sciences and its great successes in the past decade.
Yachin and Raviv conclude, "Israel's high-tech industry is perhaps more relevant than ever as the world moves into the next generation of computing." They cite the clusters of companies in broadband networks, IPTV, network and traffic management, mobile applications, mobile development and deployment, cloud security, mobile security, cloud management, virtualization, and automated software quality.
Mankovsky says, "The report's findings underscore the recovery of Israel's high-tech industry from the stagnation that characterized 2008-09."
