Tower Semiconductor to work with CMP

The announcement has no immediate financial significance for Tower, but it hopes that the collaboration will lead to design wins.

Specialty foundry Tower Semiconductor Ltd. (Nasdaq: TSEM; TASE: TSEM), which trades as TowerJazz, today announced that its 0.18 micron power management and CMOS image sensor (CIS) technology and process design kits (PDKs) are now available for prototyping to companies, universities and research labs through the services provided by the non-profit organization CMP - Circuits Multi Projets.

The announcement has no immediate financial significance for Tower, but Tower hopes that the collaboration will lead to design wins from CMP customers, which might generate future revenue for the company.

For Tower, the collaboration is an opportunity to increase exposure of its technology to companies in the global semiconductor industry.

Since 1981, CMP has helped more than 1,000 organizations from 70 countries access affordable commercial foundries by consolidating their designs onto Multi-Project wafers.

“We are very excited about this partnership with TowerJazz as they help fill a gap in our current process offering, reacting to the demand of many of our customers. The renowned quality of the characterization and the resulting PDKs help to assure first time silicon success,” said CMP director Bernard Courtois.

Tower's share price fell 0.8% on Nasdaq yesterday to $1.22, giving a market cap of $284 million, but rose 2.5% by mid-afternoon on the TASE to NIS 4.32.
