Alcatel-Lucent closes Israel center

At the same time, the company is considering opening a new center focused on cloud computing.

Alcatel-Lucent SA (NYSE; Euronext: ALU) has decided to close its optics center in Israel. Rumors about the closing have been circulating for a long time, and there was a wave of layoffs at the center last year. Today, the company officially announced the center's closure.

Alcatel-Lucent said that it decided to stop marketing the main product developed in Israel (1850 TSS-40), an optical packet transport service switch, which prompted the closing of the Israeli center. The center is part of Alcatel-Lucent optics division, which is headquartered in Italy. The Israeli center has 40 employees, some of whom will be transferred to other activities at the company, while others will leave.

Alcatel-Lucent also said that it will shortly open a cloud computing development center. The company will make a separate announcement on this matter.
